“False
Sales - When we first bought the timeshare we were told that we would
be able to exchange weeks for our dream holiday destinations ie,
Australia, New Zealand, America, Canada, Maldives etc. Which we would
not normally be able to afford. These places were never available
when we tried to book them.
At ITRA our objective is to support the consumer in timeshare disputes. ITRA has discovered a pattern of abuse, deception and even fraudulent issues that have been systematically perpetrated by many of the major timeshare industry players to the detriment of owners.
Real timeshare stories brought to you by ITRA
We
were also told that we would be able to use Thurnham Hall Country
Club at any time for only a small charge of £10 per person (maximum
of 6) for weekends/mini holidays. When we tried to book in advance on
several occasions we were told that there were no spaces available,
regardless of how far in advance we booked!
At
no time during our timeshare sales speech did anyone mention
perpetuity and that the contract of sale would be handed down to our
children. At the time when we bought the timeshare we did not have
any children.
We
have never actually been able to use the timeshare or exchange weeks
as we now have children and are only able to go on holidays during
the school holidays, which are not available.
Maintenance
fees have continued to rise since we bought the timeshare in 1999.
Originally the maintenance fee was circa £300, now some 13 years
later it is circa £700. At not ime was it explained that maintenance
fees would be increased above the rate of inflation at 8.35%.
Having
the timeshare and all associated costs involved has restricted our
annual budget and as such has actually prevented us from taking
holidays and having a standard of life.
We
have never received any money from Thurnhum Hall for the weeks which
we have never using during the past 13 years, which they have
obviously resold/rented out our apartment.
We
have no idea of how many weeks we have 'banked' as no-one from
Thurnhum Hall has contacted regarding this matter.
The
timeshare is now worth nothing as no-one wants to buy it, but we
still have to pay a maintenance fee. At the time when we bought the
apartment they said that it would be easy to sell and in face said
that Thurnham Hall would buy it back if we didn't want it anymore.”
